Rooted Intelligence
A study of connection, growth, and the living networks that shape human experience.
Rooted Intelligence emerged from an exploration of the patterns that connect us.
At the center of the work, the human form, the nervous system, and the natural world merge into a single interconnected structure. Roots, branches, neural pathways, and organic forms become part of the same visual language, suggesting that intelligence is not isolated within the mind, but distributed throughout relationships, environments, memories, and experience.
The composition explores the idea that growth rarely happens alone.
Beneath every visible achievement lies an unseen network of support, influence, learning, and connection. Just as roots extend through the earth gathering nourishment from beyond what can be seen, human development is shaped by countless relationships, experiences, and moments that often remain hidden beneath the surface.
Throughout the piece, branching forms move outward from a central foundation, symbolizing adaptation, resilience, and the exchange of information between systems. The work invites viewers to consider the ways knowledge flows through families, communities, ecosystems, and generations.
The circular forms woven throughout the composition reference both neural organization and natural geometry. They serve as reminders that intelligence can be found in many places: within the body, within nature, within relationships, and within the collective patterns that connect us.
Rooted Intelligence proposes that wisdom is not merely accumulated.
It is cultivated.
It grows through connection.
It deepens through experience.
It strengthens through relationship.
The work exists at the intersection of neuroscience, nature, and human potential, suggesting that the same principles that guide growth within forests, root systems, and living ecosystems may also shape the development of individuals and communities.
Roots become connection.
Branches become possibility.
Growth becomes understanding.
Intelligence becomes relationship.
Rooted Intelligence is part of an ongoing body of work by Jeremy Morton exploring memory, connection, neuroscience, nature, and the hidden structures that shape human experience. Through slate, painting, sculpture, and immersive media, these works seek to reveal the living patterns that connect us to ourselves, to one another, and to the world around us.
